The dreaded task of finding nursing schools

Ugh. That just sums it up beautifully. I mean it shouldn't be this flippin' difficult to find a school that you like, and that likes you, and be accepted, and then get a degree. I mean I'm going to rack up fees that are so ridiculous I don't even want to think about it just for filling out, sending in, and hoping they like my application. At least the schools that are in my top 5 list take the classes that I've been taking. Whew! But now I have to take into consideration that most schools only take new students for their nursing degree once or twice a year. And some schools in those one or two times a year will only accept 2-40 people all year. SCARY statistics. Almost enough to give me a heart attack and I can't even save myself because I have yet to go to nursing school. It's all a catch 22 I'm telling you! So this weekend will be spent looking at schools all over the country via the wonderful internet virtual tours. My recommendation for you nursing school prospects...get the best grades you can get and apply everywhere! Until next time...

I love when I kick ass!

Aced my anatomy practical (lab test with identifications of bones, tissues, and articulations) annnnnnd drum roll please.........boom! I also got an A on my chem test! Yayyyyy! Such a good week. What would make it even better is getting an A on my anatomy lecture test which I'll get back tomorrow. Anatomy round two is seeming a lot better than anatomy round one. My A streak is back and I'm loving it. Tomorrow I start cat dissections and so I'd like to remind people to not check out my blog if you are squeemish. Until next time!

Identifying elements

So this Chem lab was like California adventure world of color lol. We identified which element we had in our tray by lighting it on fire and seeing what color it turned! #geek. Annnnnd I got an A on my first lab test for anatomy. I'd say that this was a great way to end week 6 (I think it's week 6 lol). More to come later this weekend after study groups (anatomy test Monday)! Have a great weekend everyone :)

Week 4

So I have two tests next week and one the week after and I surprisingly don't feel overwhelmed! Thank god! Im lovin' this chem chapter and anatomy too. Yay bones and atoms! My tip for anyone going through this...find study buddies. The more brains you have, the more chance you have of retaining more info and understanding more. Annnnnnnd I dance to naming bones. And I look like an idiot. And I love it! Bye for now :)

Week 3 almost down!

Woah! Week three is done in approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. This week and next week in Anatomy was/is/will be bones! Fun stuff. I'm wired like that. Then practical nĂºmero uno! That means I'll be tested for lab in anatomy on bones, histology, and chapter 1 (intro). And not to mention I got a 12/12 on my lab quiz today :) yay me! Hopefully I keep that up. On to chem...Monday sucked and I had a quiz and only got a 25/30 on it :(. Better than a 0? Hopefully chem gets better. I'm dying of boredom. They need to hire interesting professors to teach the boring stuff!!!! That's my complaint for the week. Anyways I have to go to Chem lab now. Question for next time...where's your vomer bone and supra orbital margin??? The last one is a landmark not bone FYI!

Week 3...the beginning

At school to get my chem homework done because procrastination set in over the weekend. I felt that scientific notation could wait. I'd like to mention also that it's not even a month into school and I'm in sweatpants. I stopped giving a crap about my appearance and it makes me sad. I don't have the time or energy to put together a cute wardrobe. Well that and it's southern California and its either hot or cold and the only way to accommodate that is to donn a lovely pair of sweats rolled up. That's my justification at least. Anyways, with my crazy school hours when am I going to have time to train for the Tough Mudder??? I'm not sure. I'm going to have to get creative. So the Tough Mudder is this crazyyyyyyy military special forces obstacle course that my family is doing in July. It's 10 to 12 miles of hills, mud, obstacle courses such as crawling under barbed wire, running through electrical wires, the ball shrinker, greased monkey bars...I think you get the idea. Wish me luck? Who's done a crazy challenge like the Tough Mudder? Any advice for training?

Week Two Down 14 To Go

I technically would count this as week one considering week one was one day and was the intro classes. you know, going over the syllabi, introducing the class, giving you scary stats. Yeah so for the sake of technicality I guess this post will be all about the second week. It kicked my ass. I have no clue why some people in the Anatomy class are also in chem and like 2 other classes. Props to them for being crazy I guess. This week's lesson for anatomy...histology. At least this is like a histology for dummies 101 lesson. I shouldn't complain since its easier to memorize pictures than work out chem problems. My long 13 hour+ day Wednesday got longer after a long night with my cat, Munster. She walked on my injection site of my TDAP and I woke up screaming in pain...only to wake up early for a full day of work today. But my advice for anyone who is actually taking the time to read this...you better hope your school has free tutoring like mine does.It is so helpful!!! This is my shutout to M( we'll just call her that for the sake of anonymity)! Any ways I'm going to post pictures tonight so you can ooh and aww over elastic cartilage, cotton candy ( as Arnold, my professor, calls it), and epithelium!

What the hell have I done?!?!?

The title doesn't explain it enough? Ok so like I said, Spring 2012 started yesterday. "Yeah everyone, don't worry about me. I can take Anatomy with a lab and Chemistry with a lab." Well I guess we'll see. I have a 13 hour day Wednesdays. I'll be there from 8 in the AM to 9 at night. Mondays are 8 hour days and work Thursdays and Fridays. I should put up a poll and see how many of you will think I'm an idiot! Well I suppose I can do it but it will take a lot out of me. Eh I gotta stop complaining. Go me? Until next time...

Anatomy round 1

After deciding that nursing was my thing and kicking ass in bio (I got asked to be a tutor by the school for this class) it was time to take anatomy. Easier said than done I guess is the only way to describe it. I was taking a full load and high school anatomy didn't do this class justice. That last part is more of an understatement. I showed up the first day of the class and got all these devastating statistics on how most people either don't get in to nursing school or like three people made it to graduation out of the 18 that started. Well if that didn't tell me anything...obviously I'm just dumb to think that with the semester I was facing, I'd actually get an A in anatomy (anything other than an A is not an option for me...no really. you don't get into nursing school these days if you don't have at least a 3.9 GPA). Well I'll fast forward...Fall 2011 sucked harder than I thought it ever could. I stopped going to anatomy labs and then lecture because the fact that I had three other classes, work, moving out of my house, and dealing with parental unit problems was a little more than I bargained for. Anyways! I'm a gemini. I'm stubborn and I don't take no for an answer so not retaking anatomy in Spring wasn't even a thought. Spring semester started yesterday...OMG!!!!!

How this all started

Soooo Hi! I'm Emma. I want to be a nurse (in case you didn't get that from the title of this blog). This whole thing started in high school when I was like hey...I grew up in hospitals and the nurses that helped my mom were pretty cool and the doctors had too big of an ego with the "white coat= God" mentality. So Med school was not my idea of a good time. Plus I don't have $300,000 to waste on loans. Anyways, so I decided to attempt to be my dad's psychology prodigy but that was way too boring. I'm crazy enough without trying to help the crazies. So I took my required bio class and boom. There was no going back. I'm all into cellular division and what the inside of a heart looks like to do anything else. There's my story. Stay tuned for the exciting stories that lie ahead.
